Hundreds of downloadable and online-fillable forms.  Here are some links to forms specific to starting and operating a corporation:

  • The SS-4 form (and instructions), to obtain a federal employee identification number

  • Form 2848, Power of Attorney, if you want to authorize another party (e.g., your accountant) to obtain a federal EIN on your behalf

The U.S. Business Advisor (sponsored by the Small Business Administration) exists to provide businesses with one-stop access to federal government information, services, and transactions.  This is a general gateway to government business resources.

U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
The official U.S. registry of patents and trademarks.  Contains a useful list of FAQs on Trademarks and Service Marks used to register your product name or business name and any logo on a national basis.

FirstGov
As the U.S. Government’s own official portal, this is a great starting point if you are hunting for any kind of federal information.

GovSpot
An excellent site for locating websites and information for federal, state and local government agencies, including social service programs, justice and military information, business information and statistics, government contracting and grants, and much more.

California Secretary of State – Business Portal
Complete reference for the entrepreneur who wants to start a business in California. You’ll find informational links and requirements for filing, as well as electronic forms.

California Employment Development Department
The EDD is the department that collects state employment taxes.  It can assist you in obtaining a state employer identification number.  In addition, the EDD provides current information on labor force trends, with reference to economic, labor force and occupational data based upon ongoing employer surveys.

A useful link within this site includes an online-fillable DE-1 form to obtain a California employer identification number (this link requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view)

California Franchise Tax Board
The department that collects state personal and business taxes offers this online resource to help you answer all of your tax questions.  Many state tax forms are also available for downloading.
